Since December 2021, the Hans and Ilse Breuer Foundation has been included in the „National Dementia Strategy Network“ and will help shape projects as a player. This will enable Frankfurter Stiftung to pursue its goal of improving the living situation of dementia patients and their relatives even more vigorously in the future, together with other strong players in the network.
The network is embedded in the „National Dementia Strategy“ adopted by the German government in July 2020. Its goal is to create sustainable structures for people with dementia and their families with the help of 162 measures. The network is intended to support the implementation of these measures.
In Germany alone, 1.6 million people are currently affected by dementia. By 2050, the number of people affected is expected to rise to 2.7 million. With the support of the Hans and Ilse Breuer Foundation, the National Dementia Strategy aims to ensure that awareness of the needs and requirements of people with dementia increases and that those affected have a place at the center of society. To achieve this, society must be sensitized to the issues and needs of those with the disease.
Joining forces in the fight against dementia
The goals of the dementia strategy are ideally suited to the work of the foundation. By promoting basic scientific research into Alzheimer’s and other dementias, as well as its commitment to helping those affected, it contributes to researching new concepts and developing model projects that can improve living situations in the environment of dementia.
In addition to the German federal government, the stakeholders include ministries of individual German states, leading municipal associations, health care associations, social insurance carriers, organizations such as the German Alzheimer’s Association, and numerous renowned research institutions.
